Saying “I Do” on Hilton Head Island
With pristine surroundings of sand, sea and lush subtropical foliage, it’s no surprise that Hilton Head Island has become a sought after wedding location destination.
Destination weddings once offered the exotic allure of the Hawaiian islands or other foreign locations, but couples are now looking for wedding spots closer to home. With an eye on their budgets, many couples are now choosing wedding spots only a state or two away, which makes travel easier and more affordable for the wedding party and guests.
Hilton Head Island may not be a completely foreign concept for the bride and groom’s destination wedding. As it’s a common location to retire or relocate, the couple’s parents may live on the island, or they may have visited on family vacations or visited together over the years. Should they decide on a Hilton Head wedding, they’ll need to know the basics of obtaining a SC Marriage License, which it fairly easy.
Planning the time of year and location on Hilton Head for a wedding requires some serious thought. If their budget allows, they can hire a wedding planner to take care of the details such as location, catering and decorations. We recommend Celebration Events to alleviate much of the pre-wedding stress.
Many love the idea of an outdoor Hilton Head wedding, and April and May are the most popular months of the year for weddings. Spring is a perfect time of year for outdoor weddings, with much of the flora blooming all over the island.
Summer weddings on the beach are also marvelous. It’s easy to envision walking barefoot down the aisle with a soft breeze blowing, the salt of the surf, and the sun bathing the guests in its light. Additionally, with most students out for summer vacation, relatives and guests with children can make a family vacation out of the wedding trip. Sunsets can be spectacular on the island, so that can prove to be a wonderful backdrop for an out door wedding. Beach weddings on Hilton Head do require a permit from the Town of Hilton Head, and you can submit the permit electronically or download the PDF at Beach Wedding Permit.
In a locale teeming with tabby ruins made of crushed oyster shells, lofty oaks draped in Spanish moss, and surrounded by pristine beaches and centuries of cultural heritage, Hilton Head Island offers an abundance of unique experiences for visitors planning a destination wedding.
