Challenge Yourself in Hilton Head
Do you enjoy walking, running, or really going the extra mile? Hilton Head Island is one place that offers you options to feel great and challenge yourself.
Back in February, there was a race called the 2019 Hilton Head Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K. I just had to decide which course I wanted to do. I chose the 8K because I have never run this island course, so I didn’t know what to expect. I exercise regularly so I felt I could do this race due to my experience with walks and runs from previous years.
I got up on a Saturday at 6 a.m. – it was a cool and crisp day. I met at the race starting point with people of all ages who were eager and prepared to do their best. There were marathon runners, joggers, walkers, and jogger moms. The race began promptly at 8 a.m. and within 20 minutes I had my stride. I ran through Jarvis Creek Park then proceeded to the Cross Island Parkway. I found this part a challenge because I was literally running against the wind. There were volunteers showing their support and it was great to get the motivation from the spectators. When I reached the finish line, people I didn’t even know were cheering me on. I finished in just one hour. I was proud of myself because I didn’t know how long it would take me. I received an 8K medal and enjoyed watching others arrive at the finish line. What a sense of accomplishment!
