Candy’s Top 10 on Hilton Head

  1. My Bike Loop – This is my favorite activity on the island and I do it with friends and family from out of town. We call it a “Bike Bar Crawl.” You stop at multiple stops and get drinks and appetizers. You ride into Sea Pines towards The Salty Dog. Grab a T-shirt, some hushpuppies and head back down Sea Pines Drive and take a turn onto Light house Rd. Now Harbour Town! Walk the marina, look at shops, sit outside at the Quarterdeck and eat oysters and enjoy the view. On your way out through the front gate, stop at Lawton Stables and pet the animals at the free petting zoo. Pop out of Sea Pines front gate, and ride back to your home destination.
  2. The Sandbar – Rent a boat and head out to the Redneck Riviera. Make sure low tide starts early, so you can enjoy a full day of absolutely nothing but sun and fun.
  3. Kayaking on Broad Creek – Best spot to kayak in my opinion because the tide is fairly easy to navigate, the views are gorgeous, and you can almost always see a dolphin. Don’t forget to stop at Broad Creek Marina for a cup of She-crab soup at Up the Creek.
  4. Fishing – Deep Sea fishing at Tire Reef is easy and simple. Only 15 miles off the coast, takes about 30 minutes, and you’re in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight. Bottom fishing is for beginners and all you do is drop your line, wait maybe 2 minutes, and pull up to find a good sized sea bass on the hook. They are great with tacos and homemade cilantro dressing. (Or if you’re like me buy the stuff from Fiesta Fresh and don’t tell your guests).
  5. Beach Day at Shipyard Plantation Beach Club or one of Hilton Head’s “public access” beaches – I love playing football, volleyball, corn hole, Frisbee and any fun sport down at the beach. The Tiki Hut has great live music and ice cold beverages!
  6. PUBLIX! – This one may seem strange, but at the front desk I get asked multiple times a day, for grocery stores and Publix is my favorite. Eight piece fried chicken with two sides and Hawaiian roles for $12! Homemade Subs! In all honesty I go there 3 times a week and know the staff. The food is better than most restaurants, and so is their lemonade.
  7. Electric Piano – Sterling and Shevette (AMAZING talent!), the Simpson Brothers, and Dueling Pianos.
  8. Palmetto Bay Marina – Sun Rise Café has a quiche of the day and blue plate specials that change every day and are delicious. Black Marlin has one of the best happy hours on the island with $4 sushi nachos (ahi tuna with avocado and ginger) $2 fish tacos and $3.50 margaritas. The marina has all of the outdoor water sport activities like jet skis, kayaking and parasailing. Also a gorgeous sunset and view of fireworks if you want to avoid Shelter Cove traffic and mayhem.
  9. Sante Fe Café – Lunch on the patio and dinner by the open kitchen. Get the Sante Fe salad and dessert soup to start, then any of their entrees.
  10. Shelter Cove Towne Centre – Shop, eat and enjoy the waterfront view of Broad Creek. Say “hello” to Caleb from Spinnaker Guest Services as he bartends in the evenings at New York City Pizza. And Poseidon has a rooftop bar overlooking the water!
