A Florida Disney Superfan’s Insider Tips
I was 7 years old and sitting on my Dad’s lap when I said, “Dad, wouldn’t it be amazing to meet the REAL Mickey Mouse?” That single moment – that one sentence – changed the entire direction of my life. It led to a vacation to Florida, and then 8 months later we were moving here from New York. Both of my parents come from big families, with roots firmly planted in the Hudson Valley area, so moving away was not a decision that was made lightly. Shortly after settling in Florida, we became Disney Annual Passholders and my love for Disney has only grown over the years. I love all things Disney and love having the chance to share it with our Owners and Guests! Here are just a few of my favorite tips.
- Disney wants to know what you are celebrating! Stop in Guest Services and they will gladly give you a complimentary button for any kind of celebration – birthdays, anniversaries, first visits. If none of these apply, they have “I’m Celebrating” buttons that they will write your personal celebration on for you. Kids really get a kick out of this because nearly every Cast Member you see will make a point of acknowledging whatever you are celebrating.
- Disney is always magical, but holidays at Disney are extra magical! Each park has its own beautifully themed holiday decorations and entertainment. See it “snow” on Main Street during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, see celebrities tell the story of Christmas and choirs sing your favorite carols during the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT, or tour the resorts’ lobbies to see unique displays like the life-size Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian.
- I can’t talk about Disney and not mention the runDisney events. In 2013, I participated in my first runDisney race – the Happy Haunted Trail Run 5K. Since then, I have completed four 5Ks, a Half Marathon, and am currently registered for another 5K and three 10Ks in the coming months. Disney does not disappoint with these events. Each race weekend, they host an Expo for bib pick-up, merchandise (of course!), demonstrations, and speakers. There is entertainment and characters both pre-race and along the race route. Not to mention, some of the best medals out there!
